Task 1: You received an email from your English friend, Jack.

“I’m going to have 6 months in your country to study Vietnamese at Vietnam National University in Hanoi. I’m very excited about this trip. I’m wondering where I should stay so that I can learn more Vietnamese besides class time. Can you tell me where I can play sports? I’m also thinking about a part – time job I can do to have more practice of the language. Can you give me some advice?

Dear Jack,

Many thanks for your email. It was really nice to hear from you again. I’m glad to know that you are going to study in my country.

You asked me about accommodation where you can learn more Vietnamese. In my opinion, you should stay in the university dormitory. It will be a great learning environment for you to speak Vietnamese every day with your friends so that your Vietnamese skills can be improved remarkably.

There are a lot of places to play sports in Hanoi. If I were you, I would go to WeFit Centre every week. It is in the building next to your school. You could use various useful tools there for doing exercise such as: bicycle, running machine, Bosu ball and so on. Moreover, you can also play football, basketball at the university stadium.

About a part-time job, why don’t you teach English for children or working people? It’s easy for you to get a high salary. Besides, you can practise speaking Vietnamese with your students because they are willing to speak with you at recess.

I hope to see you in Vietnam soon. Please let me know if you have any thing else.

Best wishes,
